KOLOVICE KINDERGARTEN – COMPETITION
As a team that embraces challenges and is aware that architectural solutions must provide an environment that makes people feel comfortable, while also meeting the needs for which they are designed, we aspired to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution for the nursery school in Kolovicë – Prishtina. The nursery’s proposed location is on sloping terrain, that dictates the distribution of the facility’s spaces, which are divided into several “boxes” that subsequently combine to form the entirety of the building, resulting in wandering yards in certain locations. Also in children’s areas, there is the concept of portable boxes which serve as play and rest elements.
We are confident that our proposal distinguishes because of the way we envisioned the distribution of spaces, the connections between them, the trajectories of movement, flexible access to the children’s spaces and the courtyards where they develop outdoor activities, all of which are accessible to people of different skills. In all spaces, we contend with large windows that allows natural light, as well as gallery and climbing walls in the hallways. The floors throughout the building are warm and hygienic. Furthermore, the external paths are made of pebbles to honour the natural environment and are safe zones due to the fence that surrounds the entire location.
