VERTICAL FARMING PROJECT
This proposal explores the untapped potential of urban rooftops in North Macedonia by transforming them into productive spaces for vertical farming. Our concept reimagines unused flat roofs as lightweight greenhouse structures where residents can grow fresh, local green vegetables directly above their homes, reducing food miles and strengthening the connection between people and food. Integrated into the existing urban fabric, these rooftop farms contribute to a sustainable green building strategy by improving microclimates, enhancing biodiversity, and activating otherwise dormant surfaces. Developed as a forward-looking initiative by our studio, the project positions rooftops not as leftover infrastructure, but as a new layer of urban life—productive, social, and environmentally responsible.
